Pi- Einstein Day (3.14) Wenatchee and Chelan Home Inspections
We all like Pi don’t we? How about numbers in general? Well here is a great quirk of numbers.
Today is March 14 is the birthday of one of the world’s most famous scientist Albert Einstein, it happens that 3.14 is the general number used to reflect Pi .
Pi, as most remember, is used in the relationship with circle to describe the ratio of the circumference to its diameter.
Pi now has been calculated to over 1 trillion digits past the decimal. Lu Chao, a graduate student from China (confirmed by Guinness world records)-has been recorded to recite Pi out to 67,890 digits. It took him 24 hours and 4 minutes to recite to the 67,890 digit, ouch that make my brain hurt.
Pi is a transcendental and irrational number meaning it will continue infinitely without repeating the sequence.
Pi was first adopted as an abbreviation of the Greek word for perimeter. This is also known as Archimedes' Constant aptly named after “Archimedes of Syracuse” who sometime during the 3rd century BC came up with an approximation of the number.
The early mathematicians used polygons to calculate the number. Some of the polygons where up to 12288 sides to get an approximation, that’s really working hard at it.
So now the Man, Albert Einstein was born on March 14 1879 in Ulm, Württemberg, Germany. He is considered the father of modern physics. He is known for his famous equation E=MC2, The equation is the relationship between energy and mass. In this formula, E is energy, M is mass, and C is the speed of light.
Einstein immigrated to the United States in 1933 to Princeton, New Jersey and became a professor at Princeton Institute for Advanced Study.
Eistein's Field Equation (with Pi)
“Do not worry about your difficulties in mathematics. I can assure you that mine are still greater.”
“If equations are trains threading the landscape of numbers, then no train stops at Pi.”
