Did you say Wood Roof or Woodruf? A Wenatchee and Chelan Home Inspection Service
When is a wood roof not a wood roof? Its when you have Woodruf installed.
Ever in the minds of men do we come up with some crazy ideas. Here is one that fits that bill.
Manufactures over the years have experimented with new types of roofing materials. Some of these have had very mixed results. Some materials have had such problems that the manufacturer ended up in class-action law suit.
Most have heard of LP siding. But here is one where you take a product like LP and stick it on a roof.
Here are some examples of this roofing from a recent home inspection.
This is a product that was produced by Masonite called Woodruf. It was installed in the US into the 1990’s. It was prone to swelling, de-lamination, curling and becoming so brittle that it just crumbles. But here in Eastern Washington due to our dryer climate it may survive a bit longer but the outcome will still be the same.
Then to top it all off they used staples to fasten this down. I guess it really did not matter. Makes for easier removal.
The class action lawsuit for this material expired in January 2009.
