Ma’am, well how lovely your legs are, but… Wenatchee and Leavenworth Home Inspection
Have you ever thought about the hosiery and the effect on the world?
Let’s travel back to the 1930’s. Researchers at the DuPont Company were studying the molecular chains called polymers in an attempt to replace silk. Silk was expensive and they wanted an affordable alternative.
They started pulling a heated rod from a lab beaker containing carbon and alcohol based molecules. What resulted was a sheer filament material that resembled silk.
In 1939 DuPont patented their wonderful discovery and the new synthetic fiber was introduced at the World Trade Fair in New York, Nylon was born.
In the first year of production 64 million pairs of the stocking were sold to the admiring public. Ma’am, well how lovely your legs look!
Now comes WWII and this new wonder product is expanded to many uses. Nylon was used for parachutes to tents. Nylons were also used by the dough-boys in England to impress those ladies of the British crown.
Well here we have the use of the wonder product that most likely was not intended, Nylon filtration. Looks like someone was trying to get a leg up on the competition.
