John Goodenough has lead a team with senior research fellow Maria Helena Braga from University of Texas at Austin in a new battery technology that if it performs as stated will revolutionize the battery world.

Based on the report the battery will be a solid state battery with 3 times the storage as a lithium ion battery, will work in temperatures down to -20 C (-4 F) and still operate down to -60C (-76F) which is huge for those living in the northern cold regions. The new battery showed little degradation at 1200 charge cycles due to the use of a glass solid state battery.

This would be a huge advancement for mobile devices, cars and many other applications.


Just imagine an electric car with a 600 mile range or a laptop with 18 to 20 hr battery life.
