Oops- I missed something. Electrical Inspections-Wenatchee and Quincy Real Estate Inspections
One important item when a home is being wired is to properly space receptacles in a room (habitable rooms). The reasoning for this is we do not want to see extension cord being used other than on a temporary basis.
Extension cords are inherently more prone to failure that can cause fires or shock. This is especially true of the extension cords that look like speaker wire.
The standards state that receptacles need to be installed in a manner that no point measured horizontally along the floor line in any wall space is more than 6 ft from a receptacle outlet. (History of receptacle placement- Convience Recepticale Chronical)
Receptacles need to be installed on any wall space that is 2 ft or more in width (including space measured around corners) and unbroken along the floor line by doorways, fireplaces, and similar openings. (There are more provisions for this but I think you get the idea).
Here we have a home that had a few oops by the electrician.
As you can see both of these wall sections are over 2 feet wide.
Now this is not a huge deal… but because we do not want the use of extension cords I make mention of it and why.
This is another example on why having a home inspection when the home was first built is so important. Things get missed and mistakes happen. It is better to have these items corrected prior to taking possession of the home.
