Wenatchee and Cle Elum Home Inspection- The green thumb...
I never had any other desire so strong, and so like to covetousness, as that one which I have had always, that I might be master at last of a small house and a large Garden.
Abraham Cowley, The Garden, 1666
Gardening, for many, is an escape from our daily trials and endeavors. It is said to be medicinal and way for the mind to come full circle to the earth from which we sprang.
So why during a home inspection do we have to be so tough on them? I really love gardens. I see why so many want their flowers and fragrances so close to their homes.
I love birds and a garden close to your home is a special invite for a very intimate encounter with the feathered wildlife.
But there is there is the dark side of all of this if the garden is too close to your home. Vegetation is the Earth's way of recycling many things back to her. It is an ecosystem to itself with various insects and environments.
Here is a perfect example of what started out a beautiful addition that has now caused a fair amount of damage to the home.
These vines given enough time will completely destroy the wall cladding and trim. Let alone you cannot maintain it with this growth.
Your home needs to breathe and with vegetation too close (less than 12 inches) it cannot. Also insects think of this as a "Stairway to Heaven" and may see your home as its next smörgåsbord or hotel.
